New brand, old licence

One licence number covered twenty-nine domains. What that does to the word 'new'.

Most new casinos are not new companies

They are new brands, launched by operators that already hold a licence, on a fresh domain with a fresh design. The licence does not change; a domain is added to the record. From the outside it is indistinguishable from a new company, unless you read the domain column of the register entry.

A badge in a footer is an image file. A register entry is a record with a status and a list of the domains the licence actually covers — and that last column is the one almost nobody reads.

Twenty-nine domains, one number

One register entry read for this catalogue covers twenty-nine separate addresses held by a single company. Each of those sites can display the same number and the same valid status. Each has its own brand, its own terms and its own bonus structure.

This is ordinary and it is not concealed — the register publishes the list, which is precisely why the list is worth reading. What it does mean is that a valid licence tells you a company exists and is regulated, and only the domain column tells you that this particular site is covered by it.

What it changes for a reader

  • The operator has a record even if the brand does not. Usually a good thing: an established operator has processes, suppliers and something to lose.
  • The terms are usually inherited. A new brand under an old licence tends to carry the operator's standard document, so the clauses will read familiar if you have checked a sister site.
  • The launch offer is the genuinely new part. It is what the brand competes on, and it is temporary.
  • A brand can be retired. Closing a brand is a business decision, not a licence event, and balances are moved or paid out under the operator's own policy.

How to tell in a minute

  1. Find the licence number and search it in the regulator's register.
  2. Read the licence holder's name — a company, rarely the brand.
  3. Read the domain list. If it is long, this is a portfolio operator.
  4. Compare the terms to a sister site's if one is listed. Identical documents confirm it.

Why it matters for the word new

Because a licence issued three years ago carrying a domain added last month produces a site that is simultaneously new and not. Which answer you want depends on what you were asking, and printing all three dates is the only way to let the reader decide rather than deciding for them.

Alongside this page in the same section: comparing two new casinos, what actually makes a casino new, checking a licence yourself and reading a licence number for its date. Each one takes the same twenty-three casinos and the same three dates, and asks a different question of them.

Further out: new crypto casinos, the launch register and every casino in the catalogue. The catalogue behind all of them is the same, which is why the numbers on one page never contradict the numbers on another.

The section this page belongs to is the guides, and the whole catalogue with every date attached is on the launch register. The front page carries the short list of new crypto casinos by licence date.
